Senior Product Designer (12 months FTC) ✏️

About us

Loomery is a team of digital product makers who partner with organisations to help them build, learn and innovate at pace, creating next generation digital products.

Our making-led strategic approaches deliver solutions to help organisations go further and accelerate towards their product future in days or weeks, not months or years.

‍Since launching five years ago we’ve worked with large businesses, universities and startups to design and deliver new digital products and grow their digital capabilities. In the past few months we’ve worked with IG, P&O cruises, Blue Light Card and MOO.com.

You will join a growing team, led by founders Brett Thornton and Tim Checkley. Brett and Tim are strategy and product leaders with over two decades of experience delivering for many of the most ambitious organisations in the world including Apple, Visa, NatWest and Tesco. ‍We are passionate about creating a diverse company that’s a stimulating and supportive place to work – and one that leaves the planet better than we found it.

How we work

We seek co-conspirators and love working with people who want to make a big impact and prefer to ask for forgiveness.

We learn by making, putting things in users’ hands earlier to deliver fast results.

We use the latest design, prototyping, research and development tools to slash the time it takes to get v1 out in the world.

We use the minimum amount of process to get the job done, meaning our pragmatic teams are able to move fast and ship early.

We’re coaches and collaborators, building your team's capabilities, leaving you stronger for the future.

The role

In this role you will:

  • Work with Loomery and client teams to design and deliver high quality products.
  • Concept, wireframe and prototype design solutions.
  • Lead customer research and validation of designs in user testing sessions.
  • Represent and present your work to client teams.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Strategists, Engineers and other product experts.
  • Build and maintain a deep knowledge of market leading design and prototyping tools.
  • Line manage and mentor our Junior Designer, providing guidance, feedback, and direction.
  • Partner with teams to craft and deliver project proposals that support new business growth.
  • Champion AI and emerging design tools, staying ahead of trends to elevate team capabilities and drive innovation.
  • Oversee designs for internal marketing campaigns and communication

The role will report to Tim, our co-founder. The role is hybrid: half the week in our London office and half the week at home.

This is a 12-month maternity cover role, with potential to transition into a permanent position depending on business needs and circumstances.

About you

We’re looking for a senior level product designer who is:

  • A skilled designer, who has taken high-quality digital experiences (web or mobile) to market.
  • Experienced with the end-to-end design process, and as comfortable explaining formative research and jobs-to-be-done as they are crafting interfaces.
  • Experienced collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver against customer and client outcomes, and craft impactful products.
  • Able to solve challenging problems independently and autonomously.
  • A strong visual designer, with a keen eye for layout, composition, and typography that brings ideas to life beautifully and effectively.
  • An excellent communicator, who can work effectively as part of a collaborative team, alongside clients.
  • Experienced working with cross functional teams using Agile practices and continuous delivery.
  • Naturally curious and always learning, you explore AI and emerging tools to stay ahead and inspire smarter, more efficient ways of working.
  • UK-based, commutable to London.

It’s not essential, but it helps if you have worked with clients for an agency or consultancy.

The company we're building

Loomery is a five year old company, so you're joining at a very exciting stage and will play a critical part in shaping our future. Change is guaranteed, although there are a few things that are important to us that are likely to remain so.

Principles on the ways we work

Here are a few principles that have guided us in our work so far. View full details here: https://www.loomery.com/insights/introducing-the-loomery-principles

  • Believe in the Brainweave. We believe the best ideas come from combining diverse perspectives, skills, and experiences. We encourage cross-functionality, active listening and learning from each other. We call it The Brainweave.
  • Be the highlight of your client's week. We care deeply about our clients, their goals, and organisations. We go beyond delivering great products — we build strong partnerships, offer real insight and go further.
  • Just F***ing Ship It (JFSI). We start by making and we learn by shipping products. Our approach is pragmatic and practical, valuing progress over perfect plans. If in doubt, just f***ing ship it.
  • Wonder what's next. We are curious about what’s next in technology. We explore, tinker and try things out. Then we get cracking to use it to make a world that works better.
  • Run at the hill. We look for opportunities for everyone to stretch themselves and learn rapidly in a supportive environment.
  • Cut the babble. We take complex technical topics and make them easy to understand. Simple as that.
  • Own the outcome. We value those who move things forward, taking responsibility to make progress and solving problems for and with others.

Flexibility in where we work

We know we value time together face-to-face, in our experience it’s invaluable for building lasting teams. We work hybrid, partly from home and in our Bloomsbury office 2-3 days per week.

Flexibility in how we work

Everyone has different needs and demands on their time. We want Loomery to be inclusive for those with caring responsibilities or health issues. As parents of young children we know how important it is to make time for growing families too. Sometimes work shouldn’t come first. We’re very open to conversations about flexible working hours and novel working arrangements.

Leaving the planet better than we found it

Everyone needs to do more to address the climate crisis, and even though our impact is still relatively small, taking action starts at home. We offset all the carbon we use.

How to apply

If all of this sounds interesting, we'd love to hear from you. Please send a short CV and covering email introducing yourself and telling us why you’re right for this role to jobs@loomery.com

‍We expect the interview process to be an intro call over Google Meet and two rounds of video or in-person interviews.

Loomery is focussed on building an inclusive working environment and a diverse team, we welcome applications from people from underrepresented backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all of the criteria set out.

‍Loomery is committed to fairness and equal opportunity in our hiring process. Please let us know if you have specific requirements that should reasonably be factored into the application process, or if you’d like us to clarify any aspects of the role.
