Co-Founder at Loomery

‍Welcome, tell us a bit about yourself

Hi, I'm Uran! I'm based in Kosovo, where I live with my wife and our two boys, who make sure there's never a dull moment outside of work!

I've been working in IT since 2007, starting in business systems analysis and IT management before moving into software development in 2012.

Over the years, I've worked on everything from public-sector systems to complex enterprise platforms. I've always enjoyed understanding why something needs to be built, not just how to build it. I think the best solutions come from understanding the problem before jumping into the code.

How have you found your first couple of months at Loomery?

It's been a great experience so far! Everyone has been welcoming, and I've really enjoyed getting to know the team and how Loomery approaches engineering and product development.

What stands out is the openness to ideas and the willingness to challenge assumptions. There's a genuine focus on solving the right problems rather than just ticking boxes, which is something I really appreciate.

And, of course, there's always something new to learn when joining a team with such a mix of backgrounds and experiences.

You're working across our London and Prishtina teams. What's one thing you think each could learn from the other?

I think both teams bring different experiences and perspectives, and that's where the real value lies.

Prishtina has a strong culture of adaptability and resourcefulness. Working in a relatively young tech ecosystem often means learning quickly, wearing multiple hats and finding creative solutions with what's available.

London brings exposure to a broader range of industries, mature product practices and different ways of approaching complex business challenges.

I think combining that resourcefulness with broader product experience creates a really good environment for learning from each other.

What's your favourite thing about the tech scene in Prishtina?

The energy and ambition.

Kosovo has a relatively young tech industry, but there's a real appetite to learn, experiment and compete internationally. It's impressive how many talented engineers and technology companies have emerged over the years.

What I particularly like is that the community is quite connected. People share knowledge, support each other and are generally happy to exchange ideas.

There's a sense that the industry is still growing and that there's plenty of opportunity to shape what comes next.

What was the first tech product you built?

One of my earliest experiences building software came from trying to make existing business processes more efficient.

Having started my career in business systems analysis, I was naturally drawn to understanding how organisations worked and finding ways to replace repetitive manual tasks with something more practical.

That experience shaped how I approach development today. I still find the most satisfaction in building something that makes someone's work noticeably easier.

Have you been learning anything cool outside of your discipline?

I've been spending quite a bit of time exploring AI, particularly open-source language models and autonomous agents.

I'm fascinated by how AI can make complex applications easier to use and help engineers understand codebases, automate testing and solve problems more efficiently.

There's certainly plenty of hype around AI, but figuring out what genuinely works beyond an impressive demo is the interesting part.

What's your favourite tool or app most people haven't heard of?

I'll cheat a little and pick something I built myself.

I needed to transfer files between S3 storage locations across different AWS regions without the usual parallelisation bottlenecks, so I built a tool to handle it.

It might not sound particularly exciting, but there's something satisfying about removing a technical limitation and watching everything just work.

Sometimes the best tools come from solving your own frustrations.

Recommend one podcast or book

I'd recommend The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett.

I enjoy the variety of guests and perspectives, from business and leadership to psychology and science. It's interesting hearing how people from completely different backgrounds approach challenges and make decisions.

You don't have to agree with everything to come away having learned something. And occasionally, it's nice to hear about someone else's problems for a change!
